Extrusion Machine Setter / Operator
Salary: £ Location: Hyde Hours: Full Time

Primary Objectives
• To produce precision Extrusion Profiles to an acceptable standard, utilising machinery and associated equipment as effectively as possible.
• To operate Extrusion Machines at optimum running speeds, keeping the machines supplied with raw material, ensuring that the receiving parts containers are emptied on a regular basis.

Specific Responsibilities
• To operate and set Extrusion Machines to produce profiles within the companies product portfolio
• Specific duties will require certain performance criteria, particular attention should be paid to the following areas; speed and accuracy at which the task is carried out, Ongoing inspection and testing of goods produced, Correct setting of Extrusion Machines ensuring optimum running conditions are achieved and Correctly identify different material types and colour.
• Ensure that the profiles produced are manufactured within the required condition setting parameters. Particular attention should be paid to the following areas; Optimum machine running speeds, Trouble shooting / Faultfinding, Correct material processing techniques, correct packaging and labelling of product.

Main Activities - Operating
• Correct interpretation of Daily Plastic Distribution Sheets and ensure they are completed after material allocation; Material Type, Material Color.
• Monitor raw material levels in machine hoppers and fill up when required, ensuring that machines are continually ‘fed’ raw material to maintain the running of the machine.
• Continuous inspection of profiles being produced, as detailed on the Inspection & Testing Checklist displayed throughout the department. It is essential that satisfactory Quality Standards are met.
• Continuous checks to ensure that any ancillary equipment is functioning correctly, to include: Water Heaters, Cooling System ~ Water Through extrusion dies, Cooling System ~ Water Level in the tank, Cooling System ~ Stable Water Pressure.
• At the end of each shift the department must be swept and Machine working areas must be clean and free from work tools, purged materials and any spilt plastic granules.
• Transportation of materials, Extrusion Tools and finished goods within the company.
• Correct storage of raw materials and finished goods.
• Entering correct data on stock movement notes - Input / Output.
• Cleaning of mould deposits on mould tool faces, or cavities.

Main Activities - Setting
• Use and interpretation of Tool Lists to aid; correct tool identification, Machine & Tool compatibility, Optimum cycle time and Correct part number.
• Record the condition setting of each extrusion tool either on the Machine Set Up Data Sheet,
• Safe working practices are essential, the following should be observed; Safe purging of polymer from machine cylinder, ensure all safety guards are operational and in position, emergency stop location, correct start up and shut down of the machine and proper clamping and locating of the extrusion tools.
• Safe and controlled use of compressed air system.
• Safe use of the chilled water system and correct connection of hoses to the extrusion tool.
• Correct use of Tool Repair Sheets and invoking correct procedure for tool being returned to the toolmaker, to include; Red sheet ~ Very urgent ~ immediate response, White sheet ~ Urgent ~ 2 \ 3 day response and Green sheet ~ ASAP ~ 1 week or more. The sheet should include Machine Setters observations, signature and date, if there is a problem with the tool
• Take samples of components being produced at regular intervals or when required by the quality control department. This may involve altering machine parameters to prove or overcome any problems encountered by the toolmaker or quality manager.
• Troubleshoot and Fault-Find materials and machinery.
• Use and recording on Tool Sample Record Sheet including; Date, Tool No, No of cavities, Material type and name, Multiple and varied cycle times, any comments with name and signature.
• Correct use of hand tools and lifting equipment to include; Block & Tackle, Electric lift truck, Spanners and Socket Wrenches, Screwdrivers, Knife, Allen Keys & Grease Gun.

• Some physical lifting of loads may be necessary during the course of the working day, especially when handling Injection Mould Tools and 25kg bags of plastic.
• Your work place and working area must be kept clean and tidy. Good housekeeping standards are important, thus, any concerns raised will reflect on the individuals concerned.
• Safety footwear is deemed compulsory in this area and must be worn at all times.
• Perform within the requirements of your position and to the companies Health & Safety standards, as defined in the company Health & Safety Policy.
• To carry out any other duties when required. This could involve working in other departments within the factory as and when deemed necessary.

Essential Experience & Knowledge
The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role gained in a fast paced manufacturing environment with working processing experience and knowledge of fault rectification within PVC Extrusion and the ability to work accurately under pressure.

2 shift – 6-2 & 2-10 Monday to Friday rotating weekly
